Yoga Foundations

  • Ethos Yoga 113 South Saginaw Street Holly, MI, 48442 United States (map)

This workshop series is for beginners or anyone interested in slowing down the pace and breaking things down to the basics. Every student or teacher you see in a yoga studio has to start somewhere, we've all been where you are. And so we know that sometimes jumping right into a mixed-level class feels like on-the-job training.

It can be a wonderful experience to see other students and feel the energy in the room while we fumble around and figure things out. But it can also be difficult to distill out what's important to focus on in each posture, how it works in our own bodies, and keep the pace of the class.

The purpose of this workshop series is to provide clearer and more direct guidance outlining the foundational key points, with time to explore, practice, and get personalized feedback and support. During this series, we'll learn and practice:

  • Ujaayi breathing technique and how to sync breath with movement.

  • The basic foundations of each family of poses: a variety of standing postures, gentle backbends, twists, beginning arm balances, and core-strengthening work

  • Priorities of each pose so you can focus on the most important aspects of the pose first, and then over time, you'll learn more nuances and ways to build on these foundations.

  • How to personalize each posture to YOUR body, how to find YOUR right stride, and ways to modify/scale for success (props are your friends!).

Please bring a journal and writing utensil to jot down your responses to some reflection questions, just for your own self-inquiry.

You'll also want a water bottle and yoga mat (you can use a studio mat if you don't have your own). All other props are provided. Each class will be different, AND each one will review and build on what was learned in the previous classes.

About Kelly
I came to yoga looking for some pain relief and a little bit of self-care. But what I found was so much more than that and what I truly needed more than anything else.

My goal as a teacher is to hold space for others to find this sanctuary on their mats, within their minds and bodies. To create an environment where energy is sacred, and the wisdom within the body can be illuminated and revered. To share a practice that teaches me how to feel safe and held and beautiful and whole, just the way I am, just the way you are. This is so much more than yoga.
